We've all seen plenty of movies where the protagonist overcomes terrible circumstances to ultimately triumph, but how many of those are true stories? On May 6 in Hot Springs Village, you'll have a chance to watch the documentary "John", detailing the life of painter John Bramblitt. If you've never heard of him before, John is an internationally successful artist who has been featured on numerous radio, TV, and print publications. He also happens to be blind. Few stories are more inspirational than his, and after the screening you will have the opportunity to attend a workshop with the man himself!
John Bramblitt lives in Denton, Texas, where he graduated from the University of North Texas before becoming blind. John had hoped to become a creative writing teacher, but lost his vision in 2001 as a result of complications with epilepsy and Lyme disease. Although he was initially and understandably devastated, he learned how to identify colors through texture and paint using raised lines on the canvas as guides. The results are stunning, with his painting achieving international recognition.
For this, his third trip to Hot Springs Village, a special showing of the documentary "John" will be shown at the Woodlands Auditorium on Friday, May 6 at 10 a.m. While there is no charge to attend the event, those hoping to participate must have a ticket. After the conclusion of the film, the artist himself will conduct a workshop on his special method of painting at the Ponce de Leon Center. John believes that everyone has an inner artist, and he wants to help you find yours! Tickets to the workshop are $20. Tickets for both events can be claimed at http://hsvpoa.org/event-tickets/. Act fast, or you might miss out on this amazing opportunity!
