Have you ever thought about how a police department operates? Well, now you can. The Hot Springs Village Citizen’s Police Academy, which was started in 2014, is offering their Citizen’s Police Academy class to area residents. The class meets once a week on Thursdays starting March 31st at 6 p.m.for a total of 8 sessions. The classes will meet at the Police Training Center located at 301 Balearic Rd. Hot Springs Village. The class has a limit of 40 attendees per session so be sure to pick up an application at the Police Station, located at 113 Calella Rd. Hot Springs Village, or you can click here. The application will go through an approval process and you will be contacted about it after applying.
The program, if you are approved to attend, will focus on each of the working parts of a police department including anything from administrative, dispatch, patrol and others. The Academy also works with local and county officials in order to impress upon the attendants the importance of a strong relationship between law enforcement departments.
After participating in the program there is also an opportunity to continue supporting the Hot Springs Village Police Department by joining the alumni association that was created in fall of 2015. This association is a 501(c)(3) organization which means all donations to the non-profit Hot Springs Village Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association. (CPAAA) are tax deductible. To find who comprises the Board of Directors for the Alumni Association you can click here. One of the focuses of the CPAAA is to supplement the needs of the police department that are not covered by the current budget. For more information about the CPAAA head to their website here.
